ANGELA'S DECISION

Life is what you decide. Angela has been waiting all her life. Waiting for her boyfriend to come home from the Army and marry her, waiting for her mother to sober up, waiting for something to happen. Faced with several challenges, Angela makes a decision that will alter her life forever in this powerful drama, set in the somewhat desolate region of Quorn and Flinders Ranges in South Australia.

Even though set in Australia, "Angela's Decision" literally crosses many boundaries, both in story and in the filmmaking process.

Local screenwriter Gena Ellis wrote the script as part of her graduate thesis at the University of Oklahoma in 2003 before moving to the Huntsville area. An Australian director, Mat King, contacted her in 2005 through an online script site. The film was directed/produced by King and produced by Kate Croser in Australia in 2006, starring Rhiannon Owen and Xavier Samuel. The original music was recorded in London and Madrid. London-based Liam Gerner wrote and performed the theme song, "Touch Love," along with other songs in the movie.

Gena's script was a Top 25 Winner (out of 632 scripts) in the 2003 American Gems Script Competition and featured in Screentalk's July/Aug 2003 issue. The"Making of Angela's Decision" was featured in South Australia's"LipSync" magazine in July 2006.

Gena will be on hand to discuss the global journey of her script to screen. Gena is an award-winning screenwriter whose screenplays have also had options in Hollywood. She teaches screenwriting and non-fiction seminars and has published over 200 articles in magazines and newspapers. For more information, see www.riterwings.com

This Huntsville event is a special screening of "Angela's Decision," before it makes the film festival rounds.

FRAMES

An award-winning short film, "Frames," will also be shown at this Huntsville event. This 14 minute production is also set in Australia and directed by Mat King, the same director as "Angela's Decision."

Each day Eva searches for a man named Frank, who spends his days making picture frames in the back yard shed. Day after day, she finds him, but rarely recognizes him.

Frames' screenwriter Matt Hawkins wrote the story, drawing on personal experience after spending time with the elderly in nursing homes. Directed by Mat King and produced by Kent Smith, this award-winning short was an official selection for many 2004 festivals including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, LA Shorts Film Festival and Vallakolid International Film Festival. Frames also won two Australian Cinematographers Society Awards in 2004: the coveted Judges Award for Best Overall Entry and the Gold Award for Best Short Drama.

DVD DONATION

Please bring DVDs to this event -- these will be donated to US Soldiers in Iraq! Gena Ellis will be collecting new and used DVDs of films, TV shows, and/or cartoons to send to soldiers in Iraq. DVDs must be originals, not copies, and in their cases.
