This is the first film in a new African Cinema Series offered by Alabama A&M University.

Before the screening, a short introduction will be given by Ronald Slaughter, Ph.D., an AAMU professor who recently completed a National Endowment for the Humanities 2005 Summer Institute on African Cinema in Dakar, Senegal. After the film, Dr. Slaughter will lead a discussion about the African filmmaking industry.

"Le Prix Du Pardon" (The Price of Forgiveness) is a mystical tale set on the south coast of Senegal where a wealthy young man wins the woman he loves, but only by murdering his rival who is the fishing village's spiritual leader and his own best friend. The woman agrees to marry him, but taunts him for years to avenge the death. When she eventually forgives him, a more sinister revenge appears.

This award-winning film was directed by Mansour Sora Wade, and stars Hubert Koundé, Rokhaya Niang, and Gora Seck. The film's music score comes from Wasis Diop, one of the most well-known masters of the African Ethnopop. The film is in Lébou with English subtitles.
